Halted Flight (2013)

The Halted Flight installation (comprising three framed digital prints measuring 76 x 51 cm) was shown in the exhibition Cley 13: The Flight of the Spoonbill, in the 14th-century church of St Margaret of Antioch, Cley, Norfolk, in 2013.  The catalogue entry read: “Is it possible to record the harsh beauty of birds encountered as roadkill on Norfolk’s country lanes in a manner that acknowledges their place in this landscape at the same time as marking their deaths as untimely and unfitting?  The Halted Flight series juxtaposes images of these birds with characteristic but unrelated fragments of the county’s natural or cultural landscape – rockpools, derelict boats, or medieval architecture – to assign these dead creatures an awkward but integral place in Norfolk’s visual ecology.”
